Emil Krauth was an award-winning furniture designer and artist in Eberbach, Germany. Due to ill health, he moved to the United States early in the 20th Century. Life in New York didn't make his health any better and soon he moved to North Dakota. There, he became a pioneer of the town of Hebron, North Dakota and became an amateur scientist of some note. Emil amassed the largest butterfly collection in the United States, collecting of 10,000 specimens. He discovered a previously unknown butterly, which was named after him. His collection was donated to the Museum of Natural History in New York City after his passing.
